The Day a Carnival Changed My Life

When this photograph was taken at the Kenilworth Carnival in 1983, I was sitting behind the wheel of one of my father's lorries, enjoying a sunny day and taking part in a local event.

I had no idea that before the day was over, I would meet a man whose advice and encouragement would eventually lead me into running my own haulage business.

Among the spectators and organisers was a transport consultant who worked with major companies, including Ford Motor Company. After talking with me, he handed me a business card and said:

"If you ever decide to start up in transport on your own, give me a call."

At the time, it seemed like a casual conversation.

A year later, it became the opportunity that changed my life.
